![]() ![]() We did make a stop or visit the Visitor Center but apparently, they host about 2 million guests from around the world each year. ![]() The drive made me fall in love with California again as it was so beautiful.īelow is a list of all of the places where you can stop along the route. They say it’s only a 17-mile drive, but it felt like a lot more the way we did it, lol. I can’t even tell you which way we went, or how many places we stopped to take pictures. We were in Monterey so we started at the Pacific Grove Gate and wound our way around and around. The dashed red line on the roadway and neatly posted signs along the route, help you navigate easily. No matter which entrance you start at, there is a guard gate where you pay a toll and receive a brochure with a list of stops and points of interest. duh, but I didn’t know it had four primary entrances, the main highway entrance at California State Route 1, and entrances in Carmel and Pacific Grove. It is absolutely beautiful and follows the Pacific coastline and passes famous golf courses, mansions, and scenic attractions, including Spanish Bay Cove, the Lone Cypress, Bird Rock, and the 5,300-acre Del Monte Forest of Monterey Cypress trees. People were double parking, but we parked a little further down the road to take this quick snap (no time for selfies, too many people & we wanted to avoid the groups).While on one of our trips in Northern California, checking out the Golden Gate Bridge, we were lucky enough to drive the breathtaking 17-mile drive through Pebble Beach and Pacific Grove on the Monterey Peninsula. Take note that parking is tough, as there are not a lot of spaces. Of course, when you tour along the 17-Mile Drive, you have to visit the Lone Cypress. We parked here (yay for free parking), visited the restroom (they roped off certain sinks to maintain social distancing), and take in the view of the 18th hole at Pebble Beach. ![]() One area that was new to me is the Pebble Beach Visitor Center. Here’s a photo of the beach that we stopped at, so that we could eat our lunch, smell the ocean air, and marvel at the view! I spotted some houses nestled within the trees, and I have to admit that I was a little green with envy, thinking about their panoramic views! The trees are so tall and the views are awesome. Our first stop after entering the Carmel Gate was at Shepherd’s Knoll. We always started on the Pacific Grove/Monterey side, so if you decide to navigate this driving tour, check the website for information. I vaguely remember that there are several different entrances to the 17-Mile Drive. On a side note, I’ve taken this drive a few times with my parents when I was a young child. At the time, they would only take credit cards, so be sure to have one on-hand. They have a variety to choose from: made-to-order deli sandwiches, salads, and a variety of snacks, drinks and cookies.įrom there, we jumped into our car and and headed to the Carmel Gate entrance, which is at the intersection of N. in the time of COVID, face mask and all).Īfter a good night’s sleep at the cozy and quaint Hofsas House Hotel, we woke up ready to hit the road! Since I knew that we were going to be spending at least a couple of hours driving around Pebble Beach, we decided to grab some food and drinks at 5th Avenue Deli in Carmel. However, this is the first time I’ve traveled responsibly (i.e. I’ve made this trek up north many times as a child since I have family in the region. Earlier this summer, my family and I road-tripped from LA (specifically the San Fernando Valley) to Carmel-by-the-Sea. ![]()
